Choosing my niche and a domain name

They always say, write about what you are interested in. Living in Spain I am interested in improving my Spanish, and I imagine there are a lot of people all round the world also trying to learn Spanish. With my day job, online stuff and social life it has been studying Spanish that has been slipping from my schedule. Maybe if I could combine my two interests I could get a bit more done.

So, a niche about something to do with learning Spanish. Now, there are a thousand sites out there that provide online courses, dictionaries, translating tools etc and I am never going to compete with them. I also wanted a subject that I could write about even when I had no ideas. So I decided to make a really basic resource for beginners or intermediate Spanish learners. After a bit of keyword research using the free Google Adwords keyword tool, I decided on Spanish Examples as my keyword phrase. I have no idea if it was a good choice or not, but for a first effort I felt it was more important to do something than spend more time doing research.

I decided to grab a good (I hope) domain name first and worry about how to monetise it later. www.spanishexamples.com was free and I think it looks pretty good up there in my address bar.

Next time, content platforms and hosting.
